THE DECLARATION OF THE TRANSFORMATION
CELEBRATING NEW LIFE AS YOU PUBLICLY
DECLARE YOUR LOVE FOR JESUS.
Why should I get baptized? We are Identifying with Jesus. In Matthew 3:15-16, we see that Jesus Himself was baptized before He started His ministry on earth. Jesus did not need to be baptized because He was the sinless God Man. He did not need to repent. He did not need to confess any sins. Jesus gives one sentence in answer, and it is massively important. He says, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). It is fitting. That is why he is doing it. He is Fulfilling all righteousness. The fact that participating in a baptism of repentance even though he had no sins to repent of is part of that shows that the righteousness he wanted to fulfill was the righteousness required not of himself, but of every sinful man.We are Obeying Jesus Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19-20, " 19Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.." He told us to go and make disciples and baptize them! We are simply obeying Jesus' command. We are Proclaiming Jesus. Making the decision to become a follower of Christ is the best decision you’ll ever make. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'' When we enter into a relationship with Jesus, we are forgiven from our sins and become new creations in Christ! That joy is something we want to share with everyone about the hope we have found in Jesus! Our faith should be personal, but not private. Baptism is about going public with your faith. We are Displaying what Jesus did for us. When we’re baptized, we’re displaying to everyone what Jesus did for us. It is a declaration of the transformation that has already taken place when you placed your faith in Jesus. Paul wrote in Romans 6:3-5, "3 Or aren’t you aware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life. " Jesus took our sins upon Himself at the Cross. We are dying to our old self and then we get "buried" in the water just as Jesus’ died on the cross and was buried in the tomb. But then we rise up out of the water just as Jesus rose from the grave three days later! This baptism does not save us, but is a wonderful picture of what Jesus has done for us!
Remember: getting baptized is important, but not because it saves you. The grace of God through faith in Jesus is what saves you. Getting baptized is all about telling the world about the change that’s already happened inside of you. If you’ve decided to get baptized, it’s time to party! Make sure you invite your friends and family to celebrate with you.
Celebration time! We can’t wait to celebrate your baptism! We will normally head out to the Ocean, (yes the ocean!!) on a Saturday morning. We invite the whole church so get ready to have a baptism/breakfast party! Pastor Greg will share about baptism, we will pray and then Pastor Greg and someone else from our team will come alongside you and you’ll (briefly) go under the water. Bring your beach clothes, a towel, your bible and a beach chair or blanket.
