WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

THE CROSS CHURCH

Sundays - 10:15 AM | Wednesdays - 7 PM BIBLE STUDY & C-Groups -1808 Van buren st, hollywood, fl 33020

A Christian is someone who is a believer or follower of Jesus. They are someone who believes and accepts that Jesus is the Savior of the world. They know they have sinned, but they trust in Jesus who brings them a peace that is different from the world's peace. The world's answer for peace is a temporary one. One can do more drugs, earn more money, drink more, etc, but you always wake up the next day with the need to still find peace. Do you have peace? I think we all want to have peace. Real peace begins with having peace with God. Do you have peace with God?

Do you know that there is genuine and everlasting peace that can only come through a relationship with God? Many seem never to find that peace because people have never found true spiritual peace with God.

The Bible tells us how sin is the cause of that unrest or separation from God.

Romans 3:23.." for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

When God created mankind, man was at peace with God, himself, and everyone else. Unfortunately, when Adam was offered a choice to obey or disobey God's commands, he chose to disobey, and then sin entered the world, so that spiritual peace with God was lost. We have all inherited that sinful nature that began long ago in the garden of Eden. Romans 5:12 says, "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—"

We are all sinners, not because of a sin we committed, but because we were born with a sinful nature. The question is, how do we get forgiven for that sin?

That is what the Gospel is all about! The word gospel means Good news, and we have great news for you today! You can be forgiven and have total peace with God. But, you can't do it by good works, good deeds, praying more, or reading more. No, it is not about anything you do but about everything Jesus did. That is why Jesus said in John 14:6 "6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Jesus Christ, the Perfect God-Man, God's only Son, was sent to our world to take our sins upon Himself at the Cross. He allowed Himself to be crucified on a cross so that we could have the opportunity to be forgiven. Jesus could pay that price because He was sinless, perfect, and full of love for you and me. 2 Corinthians 5:21 "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins so we could be forgiven and have peace with God.

That is a powerful love. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." He loves you so much that He would die for you. But why did He have to die? Our sin. Our lies, lusts, cheating, stealing, cursing, hatred, anger, alcohol, and drug abuse, etc...Jesus was perfect, and The blood that He shed on the Cross for you and me was the perfect payment for our sins. You may be thinking, "I cannot change!". Me neither! None of us can without the help of the Holy Spirit! That is why Jesus explained that we must be 'born again'. In John 3:3, "Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." When you come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord, you are filled with His Spirit, born again, or made alive from above! God gives you the help to fight off temptations and battles, so we are never alone.

But I am not perfect! Exactly, no one else is perfect, either! God is willing to welcome us just as we are. He is not waiting for you to be perfect by coming to Him only after you clean up all your sin. No! He loves you and offers you forgiveness and a promise of a new life in Christ. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17. That power of Jesus is seen in what happened three days after He was buried in the grave...He Rose from the grave!

Jesus is alive and loves you and wants to have a relationship with you.

Here is how you can ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and to accept Jesus into your life:

  • Admit your need that you need forgiveness for your sins.
  • Be willing to Repent or turn from your sins.
  • Believe that Jesus is who died on the Cross for your sins and rose from the grave.
  • Receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and ask Jesus to control your life through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We suggest a prayer like this one:

"Dear God, I admit that I am a sinner. Please forgive me of my sins. I believe Jesus died for my sin and that He rose again. I put my faith and trust in Him as my Savior, Lord, King, and friend. From this day forward, I am yours. Please help me change the things I need to change and follow you all my days. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."

Romans 10:9 says, "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

YES, I PRAYED THAT PRAYER!!
